Interested in some help with art time in your homeschool? Vendor Marie MacPherson of Into Your Hands has put together 27 Weekly Acrylic Painting Projects for Homeschools! This product is a PDF list of projects with YouTube links so you can easily go one week at a time.

Here are the directions, materials needed, and the first five lessons to show you what it is like.

Directions: Pick an hour in your homeschool weekly schedule that you can set aside for 45 minutes to 1 hour for painting. (This worked best for me at the beginning of the baby’s nap, so I could paint, too!) Prepare your work area by putting down newspaper or a cheap disposable table cloth. Squeeze the needed paints onto a palette, one for each painter. Give each a piece of paper, as well. (Printer paper worked fine for us.) It is also helpful to have a small cup of water to thin the paints—just keep the cup well out of the work area so it doesn’t spill onto the work of art! Set up your computer in an area for viewing while you paint. Pass out about 3 brushes per painter: small, medium, and large. Cue up one video per week, in the order listed below. Follow the directions on the videos provided. Often, we would slow down the speed of the videos. Sometimes we would mute the video if the music felt distracting. Some of the videos have no narration at all, so I would try to describe what I saw the artist doing. Afterward, consider assigning one of the older children the duty of rinsing out brushes and palettes. You might set up a little art display area in your home to hang your paintings each week. Enjoy celebrating God’s gift of art with your family!

Materials Needed: You’ll need the internet and technology to view videos. Paper, palette, and brushes are needed for every session. (We switched to thin paper plates halfway through the year.) You will need blue, red, yellow, black, and white acrylics, at minimum. (I recommend adding in green, orange, light blue, brown, and purple, too.) If you have several painters, 8 oz paint bottles will likely be your best value. Also, consider table covers, like a disposable table cloth or newspapers.
